Privacy policy
Effective date: 11 July 2026 · OweMe is operated by MØXN Africa (“we”, “us”).
OweMe helps businesses track debts, remind customers, and receive payments. To do that well we need some of your information. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and its regulations.
1. Information you give us
- Your account: your phone number (used to sign in with a one-time code), your name, and your business's name and details.
- Your business records: the customers, debts, payments, reminders and receipts you create in the app. This includes your customers' names and phone numbers when you add them or import them from your contacts.
- Your payout account: the bank code, account number and account name you provide so pay-link payments can settle to you. We never see or store your card details or banking passwords.
- Voice input: when you use voice entry, your phone converts your speech to text on the device. The text (not the audio) may be processed by our servers to extract the debt details.
2. Information collected automatically
- Device and app data: device model, app version, crash reports and diagnostics, used to keep the app working well.
- Usage metering: counts of reminders sent and AI features used, so we can apply your plan's monthly allowances.
- Notification token: a push-notification identifier so we can alert you (and only you) about overdue debts and payments.
3. How we use your information
- To run the service: store your records, sync them across your devices, and back them up.
- To send reminders you request or schedule, to your customers, on your behalf and in your business's name.
- To process payments: creating pay links and routing settlements to your bank account through our payment processor.
- To power optional AI features (voice entry, insights, risk hints), metered by your plan's credits.
- To secure accounts, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with law.
We do notsell your data, and we do not use your customers' contact details for our own marketing. Your customers' details are used for exactly one thing: helping you get paid.
4. Who we share it with
Only service providers who help us run OweMe, under contracts that limit what they may do:
- SMS delivery providers: to deliver sign-in codes and the reminders you send (they receive the recipient's phone number and the message).
- Paystack: to process pay-link payments and settle money to your bank account (they receive payment and payout-account details).
- Cloud hosting: to store synced data securely.
- AI model providers: to process voice transcripts and generate insights when you use AI features (they receive the text needed for the feature, not your full records).
- App stores (Google Play / Apple), to process subscriptions and in-app purchases. We never see your card.
- Authorities: if the law genuinely requires it.
5. Where your data lives
OweMe is offline-first: your records are stored on your own phone first, then synced to our servers for backup and cross-device access. Some providers may process data outside Nigeria; where that happens we use providers with appropriate safeguards consistent with the NDPA.
6. How long we keep it
For as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your data within 90 days, except records we must keep for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons (kept only as long as required).
7. Your rights
Under the NDPA you can:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data (most of it you can edit in the app);
- delete your account and data;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
Email privacy@oweme.appand we'll respond within 30 days.
8. Your customers' data: your role and ours
When you add customers to OweMe, you are the one who collected their details and you're responsible for having a lawful basis to use them (for record-keeping and payment reminders about a genuine debt, this is ordinarily your legitimate business interest). We process that data on your instructions to provide the service. Reminders identify your business as the sender, and we require that reminders be used only for genuine debts, never for harassment (see our terms of service).
9. Security
Data in transit is encrypted (TLS). Synced data is stored encrypted at rest. Sign-in uses one-time codes instead of passwords, so there's no password to steal. No system is perfectly secure, but we design for safety first and limit access to production data.
10. Children
OweMe is a business tool for adults (18+). We don't knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The "effective date" above always shows the current version.
